Abstract

Embodying Osiris: The Secret of Alchemical Transformation is an alchemical interpretation of the Osiris myth. The author, Thom F. Cavalli, suggests ways that enable the reader to empathically engage the material within its original cultural and psychological framework. He relies on the work of Jung and prominent alchemists to interpret symbolic material embedded in the myth. The reign of Akhenaten is also examined to show how exclusivity of a single god, Aten, contributed to the development of the modern psyche. The author offers an experiential approach to embodying the meaning of this god of the dead and the individuation process reflected by his death, dismemberment, and resurrection.
