Abstract

Abstract: In this article, former students and colleagues reflect on the life, career, and impact of Barbara Doscher (1922–1996). In addition to personal reminiscences, Doscher’s pedagogy is also explored, collectively depicting a comprehensive portrait of her teaching style, maxims, and core beliefs about vocal technique and the art of singing. These short essays are presented for a new generation of singers and teachers who have not had the privilege of directly experiencing Doscher’s tutelage and provide deeper insight into the work and career of one of the most important voice pedagogues of the twentieth century.
