Abstract

ABSTRACT The previous effort of cleaning the contaminated ocean floor around offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico has been evaluated and an improved cleaning process is presented based on the preliminary study which uses laboratory experimental data, field data and computer calculations. The improved cleaning process includes filtration, air flotation and carbon adsorption operations. The improved process can reduce the organic compounds returning to the ocean from 841 ppm to approximately 5 ppm.
