Abstract
In order to counter the economic decline of an older area in the Port of Antwerp, works were recently undertaken to renovate the area between the Amerika Dock, the Albert Dock and the Third Harbour Dock. With the provision of a fairway large enough to allow the passage of ships of the Panamax class and the filling of two docks (the First Harbour Dock and the Shelter Dock), the Port authorities hope to create an infrastructure which will enable this area to return economic prosperity.
