Abstract

This paper discusses the foundation remedial grouting program on the left abutment of the Dworshak Dam. Since 1972, the time of the initial reservoir filling, seepage flows under the letI abutment have increased steadily. With increasing flows, micaceous material emitted from the downstream flumes of the left abutment indicated that fill material was being eroded from bedrock fractures. Upon concluding several studies of the seepage problem, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers determined that remedial grouting was necessary to reestablish the foundation grout curtain beneath the affected monoliths,
