Abstract
SUMMARYThe differences in the anatomy of the stomachs of the Tylopoda and the typical Ruminantia are shown. To be mentioned especially are the glandular sacs of tylopods and the differences in structure of the oesophageal groove. It seems likely that the Tylopoda and the Ruminantia have acquired the faculty of ruminating independently one from the other. The similarity of the stomachs is intorpretocl as a result of parallel development arid not as a result of a close relationship of the two groups. In the system of Artiodactyla t, lie Tj‐lopoda should be distinguished from the Ruminantia.
