Abstract
It is proposed that the classical treatment that predicts the generation of a scattered wave of frequency (ω1 −ω2) as the result of the interaction of two plane elastic waves of frequencies ω1 and ω2 has its quantum mechanical analogy if a phonon-“splitting” process is considered.
