Abstract

This chapter focuses on the analysis of E. Bikerman Seleucid Institutions . Bikerman published important papers on the political, administrative and legal from the Hellenistic period, activity continues steadily after the publication of the Seleucid Institutions . The chapter discusses the classic works on political history about the relationship between Rome, Cities and Antiochus III, and more generally of chronology or Hellenistic political history. It presents the three pillars of the historian Bikerman activity: ancient history classic Hellenistic history (especially through the documents and diplomatic), history of Judaism, especially the Hellenistic period. Bikerman emphasizes the dominance of the sovereign who is not just de facto but is based on a legal basis. The crisis in the history of the Maccabees is based on sense of administrative, legal and social realities in the Seleucid Empire. The original text of the chapter is in German.
