Abstract

<titre/>In Problèmes théoriques de la traduction (1963), Mounin shows the translation’s problems that linguistics have brought up to day : languages’ diversity, communication’s difficulties. He condemns the excessive use of the notion of communication by proposing degrees that will help the translator to classify his facts according to a hierarchical system. Mounin attaches a great importance to semantic questions, regarding definition problems, references and distinctive features. It is a peculiarly interesting aspect to the research, especially in our days. Mounin has particular emphasis on translations capacities. It is a never accomplished process since, just like languages, translation constitutes a process of the world’s end people’s knowledge that can never reach completion. That is the reason why Mounin recommends to linguistics, theoretical and descriptive, to include translation into its research field.
