Abstract

The Ibâḍis are a moderate branch – and today theonly survivors – of the Khawârij, the oldest Islamic sect which, in the eyes of Sunni Muslims, is heretical. At present, they form the main part of the population in the oases of Mzab in Algeria, of Zawâra and Jebel Nefusa in Tripolitania, in the island of Jerba in Tunisia and in Oman.
