Abstract

Religion in the workplace is a phenomenon that has been accumulating interest as organizations become increasingly diverse. The principal approach for studying religion at work has been to use a quantitative perspective. While this has provided intriguing insights, the individual experiences of religion in the workplace have been largely unaccounted for. Although religion is a very private element of an individual’s identity, its respective beliefs and perspectives remains active throughout a religious individual’s work and life experiences. This paper explores a case study of an individual’s experience of religion in the workplace; namely the conversations they have with others about religion at work. Using an identity constructionist perspective, an interpretation of this individual account of their religious experience at work will be explored.
