Abstract

Change is a constant in human existence and comes to cultures across the world differently. This book compares the experience of religious change amongst the early Irish and the recent Jukun, separated in time by more than a millennium. The Irish case study is woven in to help elucidate the Jukun experience. In this opening chapter, various relevant definitions, theories, and case studies are briefly explored, including a previous comparative study of religious change in the Celts of Ireland and the Akan of Ghana.
