Religion, Terror, and America: Pastoral Care in the 21st Century

Abstract

The United States of America’s War of Terror has so radically affected life in the USA that American culture is experienced by many as a “culture of terrorism.” This description of American life might lead one to conclude that America’s culture of terror is a new experience in America. This article suggests that terrorism laid the foundation for the New Republic and is deeply embedded in the American experience. In order to truly care for the American soul, pastoral theology must address the terror resident within American daily life.
