Abstract

This chapter explores the ways material religion is manifested online through religious digital practices and artefacts. Consideration is also given to the potential challenges that arise due to the blurring between on-line-off-line religious practices and contexts of digital technologies. This leads to outlining the key questions, which emerge regarding the material artefacts, rituals, and aesthetics within digital religion. These include issues of authenticity, authority, and how religion is shaped by new technologies and spaces. This provides a basis for understanding how material religion can be framed and understood within the context of digital religion.
