Abstract

This paper proposes a new spatial configuration strategy of fault current limiters (FCLs) in multi-terminal HVDC grid. Compared with conventional spatial configuration, the proposed method reduces the number of FCLs and achieves better fault-current-limiting effects. Theoretical fault currents of different spatial configuration strategies are calculated to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed strategy. 4-terminal HVDC grids are built in PSCAD/EMTDC and simulation results prove the feasibility and practicality of the proposed spatial configuring strategy.
