Abstract

From the beginning, Smith Travel Research (STR) conquered its share of challenges while shooting for its goal of providing reliable data. Early efforts by the former firm of Laventhol & Horwath laid the groundwork. The advent of the PC facilitated collection and analysis of increasing levels of data, which formerly were stored on expensive mainframe equipment. One key to achieving the goal of creating an industry-wide data source was having a vision for how that information could be used. With the current availability of considerable information, the need has never been greater for clarity of vision for how to use it.
