Abstract
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) plays a prominent role in the progress of wireless communication applications. The main challenging issues in WSN includes prolonging the network lifetime, reducing the energy consumption of sensor nodes, avoidance of congestion between the data-flows, providing scalability and reliable event information with high system throughput and etc. Event-Driven Wireless Sensor Networks (EWSNs) are special types of WSN in which provisioning of accurate information about the emergency condition is more important. Since the main aim of the paper is to find out a protocol for reliable and energy efficient data communication in a EWSN, the protocol proposed is named as Reliable and Energy Efficient Data Transmitting (REEDT) protocol. When an emergency incident/event (like fire/smoke accident) happens, how it is been conveyed quickly to the destination with high reliability and energy efficiency is dealt in this paper. Less congestion, less network load and fewer retransmissions gives higher reliability to the network. Since not all the nodes are used for final-decision making, collision rate will be less and energy efficiency of all the nodes in the network will also be enhanced. To analyze the performance of the proposed system, Network simulator(Ns-2) is used.
