Abstract

AbstractAn ultrasonic sensor with the use of a modulated waveform is presented in the paper. This proposition makes it possible to increase the reliability of the measurement and to substantially shorten the period between consecutive distance readings. The distance measurements are commonly made using ultrasonic sensors in multi-rotor micro aerial vehicles (MAVs). The distance measurement is a complex issue. In practice, the distance is usually calculated through a data fusion of measurement of several different types of sensors. However, due to their irreplaceable advantages, very often one of the basic sensor that MAVs are equipped with is US sensor. Ultrasonic sensors are readily used in take-off and landing and for obstacle detection. Therefore, multi-rotor MAVs are equipped with two or more such sensors because of the need to measure distance in several directions (e.g. forward and down).KeywordsUltrasoundDistance measurementIntelligent sensorMAV
