Abstract

INTRODUCTION Excessive or insufficient mobility of the first ray is a functional impairment that is widely associated with plantar foot pain or abnormal gait. A qualitative method was usually used to describe limitation of the first ray clinically. Glasoe et al. examined first ray mobility test using a ruler method and demonstrated a poor intraand inter-rater reliability. In this study, a modified ruler method was introduced to overcome the problem of foot fixation during first ray measures. The purposes of this study were to design a simple, inexpensive ruler to quantify first ray mobility and to assess its inter-rater and intra-rater reliability.
