Abstract

The increasingly imminent problems of energy exhaustion and environmental pollution promote the emergence and development of a novel energy utilization system named integrated energy system (IES). IES is a novel energy system that integrates multiple energy carriers such as electricity, natural gas and heat/cooling, and fully consumes renewable energy such as wind and solar, etc. Similar to the traditional single energy supply subsystem, the basic requirements for the planning and operation of IES are safety, reliability and economy. In this paper, the development background and significance of IES, as well as the concept and necessity of reliability assessment in IES are briefly introduced. Then, the research status of reliability assessment in IES is summarized from two aspects: the reliability modeling and assessment methods, and the reliability assessment indices. Finally, the current challenges faced by reliability assessment of IES and the prospects for future research directions are explored.
