Abstract

In estimating costs, the state of knowledge is imperfect when uncertainties arise from incomplete design information. Motivated by needs in design reliability for estimating costs at the time of the feasibility report, the authors address methods for quantifying the uncertainty in the design arising from the imperfect state of knowledge. A computer model of design reliability for estimating the cost of pile foundation projects is outlined and the flowchart of the main program is presented. The regression analysis method is used to develop both linear and nonlinear cost functions based on statistical data. The application of the computer program to real pile foundation projects has been performed using both linear and nonlinear cost function forms. Typical results are presented. >
