Abstract

AbstractAiming at the series of problems existing in current power system this paper evaluates the reliability indices by considering the cyber intrusion phenomenon at the distribution side of smart grid infrastructure using MATLAB software. Modernization of grid will help to improve the reliability and promote energy efficiency. This will allow the customer to generate and store electricity and use it in case of an outage. Furthermore, the paper also discusses the cyber-attack modeling and its impact on reliability indices. The reliability indices such as system average interruption frequency index (SIAFI), system average interruption duration index (SAIDI), customer average interruption duration index (CAIDI), average service availability index (ASAI), average service unavailability index (ASUI), energy not supplied index (ENS), average energy not supplied (AENS), annual customer interruptions (ACI), customer interruption duration (CID) for each case are evaluated and the impact of cyber intrusion on reliability indices is also taken into consideration. Assessment is carried out on IEEE 14 bus system for the following four cases: Case 1: System with conventional sources, Case 2: System with renewable energy sources (RES), Case 3: System with conventional, renewable energy sources, and storage devices (SDs), Case 4: System with conventional, renewable sources, and storage devices, including cyber intrusion (CIs).KeywordsCAIDICyber-attacksCyber physical systemENSReliability assessmentRenewable energy sourcesSmart gridStorage devicesSAIDISAIFI
