Abstract

Now-a-days, in evolving power systems Distributed Generation (DG) is predictable to perform a vital role to serve energy to the power systems as they practice various types of resources and advancements. Mainly DG can be related with two technologies i.e., conventional and renewable energy technology. The fluctuations may occur more in the power produced from renewable resources and it is difficult to forecast. The evaluation of reliability indices can be done using Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) or analytical method. In the case of DG, the analytical technique is very difficult to apply to the problem due to its static nature of problem formulation. So, MCS method is used to assess the renewable models in distribution system reliability. Here the DG's role is to boost the level of reliability by supplying the local load during interruptions. In this research work, the higher penetration of DG will be connected at each customer load points of the Roy Billinton Test System (RBTS) of bus 6. The foremost aim of this research work is to enumerate and check reliability indices for several system structures. The eight state Markov model is implemented in VC++ to estimate the failure rate and repair time for solar DGs. This model is used to determine the reliability indices in reliability model. For renewable models connected at customer end, a computer program is developed using MCS technique in VC++ to demonstrate the improvement in reliability indices using solar DGs.
