Abstract

The renewable energy systems are small and distributed energy sources which supply power to remote areas. The hybrid renewable micro-grid system is an excellent solution for supply of electricity to the remote places where conventional grid connectivity is difficult. But the hybrid micro-grid system is a challenge due to the uncertainty nature of the available energy sources. This research work presents the reliability and cost estimation of a hybrid renewable energy system. The renewable energy system presented for study consists of a photovoltaic system (PV), wind turbine generator (WTG), and battery for storage of excess energy generated. A diesel generator is integrated to manage the peak load demand. An attempt has been taken to estimate the total cost of energy generated. An efficient energy management system is developed to minimize the cost of energy with increased reliability factor. The probabilistic model of wind and solar power generation has been considered for analysis. Maximum use of renewable energy sources has been emphasized in the present work.
