Abstract

This article considers the formation of reliability indices in the designing of machines (engineering systems). After the numerical values of a machine’s runtime and probability of reliability are determined in the technical enquiry (TE) phase, the probabilities of failsafe operation or failures in the system and its elements are recorded as exponential expressions, where the exponents are used as the parameters of ranking the reliability indices of the system’s elements. The concept of renewal cost allows attaining the compliance of the elements’ reliability indices with their renewal costs. The study results can be used both in designing new mechanical systems with preset reliability levels and in machine upgrades.
