Abstract

This study investigated the cross-cultural reliability and factirial validity of the Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale (RCMAS) among Zimbabwean children. Four hundred and fifty-five girls and 506 boys completed the RCMAS. The reliability of the RCMAS lie subscale was satisfactory, but the reliability of the three RCMAS anxiety subscales was modest. RCMAS lie subscales were significantly correlated with all RCMAS anxiety subscales scores among both girls and boys. Factor analysis of the RCMAS items yielded clear lie factors among girls and boys, but largely failed to produce interpretable anxiety factors among either girls or boys. These results do not support the use of the RCMAS as a research or diagnostic instrument among Zimbabwean children.
