Abstract

Both cognitive and noncognitive uncertainties can be present in the same variable described by its own probability density function (PDF) and membership function, respectively. A fuzzy-random density function (DF) is suggested in this chapter by considering the combined effects of these two types of uncertainty for the variable. The variable is assumed to have a fuzzy mean and a non-fuzzy standard deviation. Approximate methods were developed for dealing with the fuzzy-random DF.
