Abstract

A transfer line has been simulated to analyse the effect of the size of inprocess buffer and the number of repairmen on its performance. The line efficiency has been found to be highly sensative to changes in these parameters, specially when their values are small. A search procedure has, been presented to optimise the size of the inprocess buffer and repair crew. Five repair policies have been examined and the one giving priority to the repair of the down stage having largest empty space in the following buffer has been found to be the most effective. An illustrative example in support of the model has also been presented.
