Abstract

Growing demand for electrical energy and insufficient investments in power system infrastructures are currently the main factors that push engineers to operate power system close to their safety limits under constrained operational conditions. Indeed, in order to be able to exploit their electrical networks with reduced security margins without significant operating safety deterioration, power system managers are looking for new tools to guard against the blackouts risk. This objective could be accomplished by online analysis of power system security and reliability. In this work, we propose as a solution to this problem. A new tool for classifying bus according to their reliability taking into account the plants engaged to satisfy the load of a given period is proposed. For this, a methodology based on graph theory is presented and a program is developed under MATLAB environment and applied on the IEEE 9 bus test system. The obtained results are very promising.
