Abstract

It is estimated that nearly 20 kg of SiO2 is removed from the soil by rice plants for producing 100 kg brown rice (Takahashi 1987). Although there is a large amount of silicon in soil, little is available to the rice plant. To supply a sufficient amount of silicon to the rice plant for healthy growth, therefore, it is nccessary to supply various silicon materials to the soil. Rice straw application to the soil is one of the means.
