Abstract

Nonlinearity + reversibility = feedback for self-oscillations. This qualitative conclusion was obtained after a detailed analysis of the simplest model describing relaxation self-oscillations, which were experimentally found in some chemical systems. The reversibility of some steps is shown to be responsible to a great extent for the appearance of relaxation self-oscillations. It is just the combination of reversibility with specific nonlinearity that forms the feedback necessary for the appearance of self-oscillations.
