Abstract

Effect of doping with rhenium on temperature spectrum of boron internal friction (IF) and shear modulus have been studied. It was shown that the absolute value of dynamic shear modulus increase with decreasing of activation energy and frequency factor of the IF maximum generated by twin boundary motion in stress field. The decrease of activation parameters of the relaxation processes at torsional oscillations at a frequency of 1 Hz is supposed to be due to the formation and motion of twinning surface dislocation rings appearing on the coherent twin boundaries along the impurity‐free (001) planes. Experiments were carried out to develop the relationship of shear modulus on twin boundaries and in the bulk. Within the limits of K. Sumino dislocation model were calculated energy of formation and expanison of twinning dislocation ring, its minimal equillibrium radius and halfwidth of surface kink and relative frequency of kink formation on the coherent twin (001) boundary in β‐rhombohedral boron.
