Abstract

Proton longitudinal relaxation times in a water-silica powder mixture, at different concentrations and temperatures, as well as the deuteron relaxation time in a deuterated water-silica powder mixture have been measured. The results were interpreted within the framework of the “two fractions in rapid exchange” model, and compared with the longitudinal relaxation times of protons and deuterons in aqueous solutions of proteins. A limit for the deuterium correlation time in the bound fraction was obtained.
