Abstract
A variational approach is suggested as a base for constructing the formalized scheme for the method of collective variables. Within this framework the dynamics of the internal modes of soliton excitations is considered. Using a systematic perturbation scheme in the amplitudes of these modes the radiation field is found and the dissipation of soliton excitations is determined.
