Abstract

Electroosmotic volume flows through oxidized collodion membranes, interpolymer membranes of collodion and poly (acrylic acid), and interpolymer membranes of collodion and poly (acrylic acid) partially cross-linked with Fe 3+ were measured. In all the cases, volume-time plots were nonlinear. The magnitude of curvature was different from one plot to another. The time dependence of electoosmosis was explained with the same relaxation of polymer chains dissolved in the liquid phase of the membranes that specifies the time dependence of the streaming potential.
