Abstract

General expressions for the energy-momentum and angular-momentum radiation rate in terms of the multipole moments of a localized charge-current distribution are derived. The argument is essentially based on the observation that the radiative parts of the energy-momentum and the angular-momentum tensor are conserved outside the source. For a charged dipole system which does not accelerate and oscillate too rapidly, the radiation reaction force and torque are exhibited explicitly.
