Abstract
This paper gives a new semiclassical (WKB) solution of the one-electron Dirac equation for electrons in a spherically symmetric atomic potential. The two-component wave-function has several favorable formal properties: it exactly satisfies a relativistic probability conservation equation and exactly reduces to the nonrelativistic semiclassical solution in every detail (including the Langer modification). The solution gives satisfactory predictions of energy-levels, orbit radii and radiative line-strengths.
