Relativistic magnetron with diffraction output (MDO) with a permanent magnet anode block configuration

Abstract

This paper discusses the Magnetron with Diffraction Output (MDO) with transparent cathode and a permanent magnet configuration. Conventionally, to produce an axial magnetic field, a pulsed power system with Helmholtz coils is used. A permanent magnet configuration could be used as an alternative source of an axial magnetic field. The following substitution allows the MDO system to be independent of a pulsed power system for the magnetic field production, while maintaining high efficiency, and being compatible with repetition rate operation.
