Abstract

The system of hydrodynamical equations governing the behaviour of an ideal, relativistic, charged, gravitating fluid are derived from a variational principle. Gravitational effects are first included by making use of Einstein’s theory of general relativity. An alternative formalism, using a scalar theory of gravitation, is then discussed.
