Abstract

Relativistic corrections to the real part of the nonrelativistic forward Rayleigh scattering amplitude are obtained for photon energies in or below the X-ray region. For a neutral atom the knowledge of electron binding energies and subshell photoeffect cross sections at their thresholds is enough to obtain relativistic corrections to order of α 2 Z 2.
