Abstract

With the object of nutritional improvement for firemen, relative metabolic rates (RMR) of fire fighting and time studies of their daily life were measured at four fire stations in Tokyo.(1) Allmost all RMR of the fire fighting were extremely high, amounting to 39. Many of them lie between 13 and 19, which belong to the heaviest work in Japan.(2) However, the time of the field service occupies only 16 minutes daily in average through a year, and consequently the energy consumption per day is 2542Cal. in average yearly, ranged from 2196Cal. to 3151Cal.
