Abstract

It has been possible to observe all nine components of the KLL Auger group of Br 79 in a double focussing beta-ray spectrometer at an electron line width of about 0.08%. A source of Kr 79 prepared by electromagnetic separation was used. Except in the case of KL IL I( 1S 0) the relative energies were found to be in good agreement with the semi-empirical results of Hörnfeldt which are based on non-relativistic calculations including intermediate coupling by Asaad and Burhop. Comparison of the relative intensities of the KLL components, normalized to KL IL I( 1S 0), with the calculations of Asaad and Burhop, shows that the experimental intensities are considerably larger than predicted. This is especially the case for the three so called satellite lines KL IL II( 3P 0), KL IL III( 3P 2) and KL IIIL III( 3P 0).
