Abstract

The carbonylation of styrene in the presence of PdCl2(Ph3P)2 in dioxane is accomplished by 99% yield and high selectivity relative to the α-isomer (93%) at low CO pressures (20 atm). The replacement of CO by synthesis gas leads to a decrease in selectivity but does not affect the product yield.
