Abstract

With the recent rapid growth of urban development, particularly in medium-sized cities in Mainland China, there is a need to investigate the relationships between urban form and travel behavior by different-purposed trips for sustainable urban development. This paper proposes a systematic method for qualifying land use pattern by density, land use balance, and travel behaviors of modal split. Trip length and traffic emissions also will be investigated. Data collected from seven medium-sized cities in Mainland China are used for statistical analyses and model development. On the basis of the analysis and model results, insightful findings and constructive suggestions are given for sustainable land use patterned by travel behavior and purpose in Chinese medium-sized cities.
