Relationships between the distribution of serotonergic cell bodies and the running of vascular elements in the central nervous system of the snail, Helix pomatia

Abstract

1. 1. The large ink-labelled vessels, such as the anterior aorta and the middle foot artery run over the largest groups of 5,6-dihydroxytryptamine-pigmented serotonergic cell bodies of the CNS. 2. 2. The main branching points of the vessels in the CNS perineuriurn are located over small groups of pigmented serotonergic cell bodies. 3. 3. This intimate anatomical connection suggests mutual relationship between the serotonergic cell bodies and the vessel system.
