Abstract
1. 1. Caeruloplasmin reacts rapidly and reversibly at pH 5.5 with 0.007–0.07 M CNS-. During the reaction the absorption of the unreacted protein at 610 mμ diminishes and new absorption peaks appear near 400 mμ. Only half the chromophoric sites of the protein react. 2. 2. An absorption spectrum for the thiocyanate-protein complex has been calculated. 3. 3. Thiocyanate concentrations above 0.07 M irreversibly remove all the visible absorption of caeruloplasmin.
