Abstract

ABSTRACT We assessed the concentrations of Cd, Cu, Cr, Mn, Pb, and Zn and their correlations with organic matter in sediment cores of Lake Nanhu, an urban lake in Wuhan, China. The mean concentrations (mg/kg, dry weight) of heavy metals were: Cd, 0.155; Cu, 47.0; Cr, 147.8; Mn, 1,026.5; Pb, 55.7; and Zn, 132.1. There were significant positive correlations between organic matter and heavy metals and among individual heavy metals, and there was a clear trend in accumulation of heavy metals near the point of municipal sewage discharge.
