Abstract

Objective To probe to the psychological health status among nurses and the recognition of their colleague′s support, explore colleague′s support impacting on nurse′s psychological health. Methods We investigated 331 nurses in a certain Grade III Class A hospital of integrated traditional and Western Medicine in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province by questionnaire surveys.The questionnaire included general information, symptom checklist, colleague′s support scale. Results The total score and nine factors scores in symptom checklist were obviously higher than nationwide normal model, and there was statistical significance between them (P<0.01). The rating scales indicated that the top score was the average score of coercion (2.07±0.84), depression (1.91±0.81) and dramatization (1.85±0.74). There were differences between the married and unmarried nurses in the average score of somatization, coercion and intolerance(t=2.592, 2.066, 2.388, respectively; P<0.05). There were different in nurses with different educational background impacting on the average scores of depression, hostility, intolerance and psychosis (t =2.162, 2.677, 2.099, 1.970, respectively; P<0.05). The nurses with different length of work experience had different the average of total score and the scores of somatization, coercion, depression, hostility, intolerance and psychosis (F=3.723, 3.613, 4.137, 5.504, 4.370, 4.513, 4.149, respectively; P<0.05). Stepwise multivariate linear regression analysis indicated that there were significant correlation between dramatization, anxiety, hostility, terrorist, Paranoid psychological state and head nurse support (β′=0.142-0.193; P<0.05), and there were significant correlation between coercion, interpersonal relationships, depression, psychosis and consciousness raising (β′ =0.128-0.241; P<0.05). Conclusions It is very important to perfect the colleague′s support system, raise head nurse support and colleague support level for improving the mental heath of nurses.
