Abstract

Phenolic compounds with one hydroxyl group and one or more substituents in the benzene ring were investigated on two polar and one non-polar stationary phases. The Kováts retention indices were determined for 44 phenols on electron-donor (NGA) and electron-withdrawing (OV-225) stationary phases. High correlation coefficients indicate that the retention index of a phenol on a polar stationary phase consists of the retention index of the phenol on a non-polar stationary phase and the molar refractivity of the whole molecule.
