Abstract

Success in sports performance is guaranteed with good lifestyle practices, relaxation, diet, hydration, sleep, entertainment, etc. must be present in the daily routine. [ Burns et al., 2018]. We seek to identify the lifestyle related to the type of sport, according to physical activity, in young athletes. The sample size (n = 326) of athletes from the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) ‐ Trujillo Subsidiary and non‐athletes (n = 80) was selected. Were evaluated 11 types of sports, men and women (12 – 40 athletes) between 21.5 and 22.2 years old, with the exception of soccer and baseball whose members were only men formed the groups. To identify their physical activity we conducted a survey [ Bonet et al., 2016] taking into account the time (h) they spend to carry out their activities for 24 hours, from this data, we obtained the lifestyle. We found differences in lifestyles among athletes according to type of sport, where the most active are long‐distance runners (~78.9%) followed by taekwondo (~41%). In contrast, the major percentage of sedentary athletes are in the powerlifting (~40%) and next the swimmers (~38%). In addition, athletes consider a physical activity of 17.1% sedentary; 52.2% active and 30.7% very active unlike non‐athletes who were 65%, 22% and 13% respectively, therefore predominantly an active lifestyle compared to the sedentary lifestyle of non‐athletes. We conclude that the athletes of the IPD ‐ Trujillo Subsidiary present different lifestyles that are related to the type of sport practiced.Support or Funding InformationAntenor Orrego Private University Survey the Lifestyle according to Physical Activity in Young Athletes, Peruvian Sports Institute ‐ Trujillo Subsidiary.
